Why we kept buying the same combination
We have used Akebono pads and Bosch QuietCast premium rotors on our cars for more than 10 years. The combination has been reliable enough that we continued buying it rather than chasing whichever brake kit happened to be cheapest at the time.
We have bought Akebono pads through both RockAuto and Amazon, depending on price and availability. Brake parts are vehicle-specific, so always verify the exact fitment rather than buying only by brand name.
Latest firsthand example: Akebono ACT787A on our 2005 Accord
Our 2005 Honda Accord EX V6 sedan during the latest Akebono front-pad installation.
In August 2026 we installed Akebono ACT787A Ultra-Premium Ceramic front pads on both sides of our 2005 Honda Accord EX V6 sedan. The pads were about $55. The old pads had worn fairly evenly, the existing rotors were still serviceable from the previous brake job, and the car drove smoothly and braked very well afterward.
One Akebono issue — and good support
We did have one problem with an Akebono pad set over those years. After contacting the company, Akebono sent us a full replacement, and the replacement was an upgraded version. The response was quick enough that it reinforced rather than ended our confidence in the brand.
SIL-Glyde is another garage staple
AGS SIL-Glyde has lasted a long time for us and works well for the appropriate brake hardware and slide-pin service specified by the vehicle/component manufacturer. Before applying fresh lubricant to serviceable caliper pins, we clean the old contamination from the pins and inspect boots and sliding surfaces.
