Our small-business coverage is informed by helping operate Olive Plus Sage, a handmade skincare brand that has sold on Etsy since 2019 and through its own WooCommerce store since 2024. We built and manage the website, ecommerce systems, product listings, shipping workflow and related tools. Product claims and current platform details are checked against official documentation.
Quick verdict
The Glendan 12×12 light box is a useful, affordable way to create a clean photography space for small products. It hides distracting backgrounds and provides consistent light, but the 12-inch interior can feel cramped for styled arrangements or larger items.
Choose the 12×12 size for jars, bottles, jewelry and other compact products. Buy a larger box if you routinely photograph sets, tall items or props.
Our two-year experience
We bought the Glendan light box about two years ago for Olive Plus Sage product photography. We mainly use the white backdrop and have photographed with both smartphones and a Canon 80D DSLR. The box folds, but we usually leave it assembled because it is used regularly.
The main benefit is control: the box hides household or workspace distractions and creates a repeatable background that looks cleaner on Etsy and WooCommerce listings.
Phone versus Canon 80D
A phone is usually enough for straightforward product listings when the lens is clean, exposure is controlled and the product fills the frame. The Canon 80D provides more manual control, lens options and raw-file flexibility, but it also creates a slower workflow.
The light box improves both because it solves the background and lighting problem before the camera is involved.
How we add extra light
The built-in LEDs are dimmable, but reflective skincare jars and bottles sometimes benefit from more light or a different direction. We occasionally lay a rechargeable work light flat over the top opening or hold it off to the side. That can brighten labels and reduce a dark side, though the light should be diffused or moved if it creates harsh glare.
- Use the white background for clean marketplace images.
- Move the product rather than relying only on digital zoom.
- Watch reflective lids for hotspots.
- Keep white balance consistent across a product line.
- Take one clean catalog image before styled photos.
Is 12×12 inches big enough?
Usually, for one small skincare jar or bottle. It becomes restrictive when photographing gift sets, multiple products, taller bottles or arrangements with props. A 16- to 24-inch box gives more working distance and more room to shape light, but also occupies more space.
Who should buy it?
Best for: Etsy sellers, skincare makers, jewelry sellers and collectors photographing compact products.
Choose larger: sellers who photograph bundles, handbags, shoes, large packaging or elaborate scenes.
